Premium & Subscription
What's included with Mr. Number Premium?
For a full breakdown of what's included on each platform, see What is Mr. Number Premium?
Why isn't Mr. Number blocking spam calls after I subscribe to Premium?
Android: You need to enable blocking after subscribing. Open Hiya Spam Blocker, go to the Blocking tab, then tap Scam Calls and Nuisance Calls and set each one to Block.
iPhone: Open Hiya Spam Blocker, go to the Blocking tab, and review your Protection Level settings to make sure blocking is enabled.
Why don't I have access to Premium features after subscribing?
Android: Open the app and go to the Subscription tab. Scroll down and tap Restore subscription. Make sure you are signed into the same Google account used to purchase the subscription.
iPhone: Open the app and go to the Premium tab. Scroll down and tap Restore purchases.
If restoring does not work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app, then restore again. See Mr. Number is not working for full troubleshooting steps.
How do I cancel my Premium subscription?
Cancellations are managed through the platform where you subscribed — uninstalling the app alone does not cancel your subscription.
- Android: Cancel through Google Play subscriptions.
- iPhone: Cancel through Apple subscriptions.
Can I share my Premium subscription with family members?
Android: In-app subscriptions on Android are personal and are not eligible for family sharing. Only one-time purchases are sharable. See Google's support page for details.
iPhone: Subscription sharing depends on Apple's Family Sharing settings. See Apple's Family Sharing support page for details.
Troubleshooting
Mr. Number is not working correctly. What can I try?
Step 1 — Update the app. Check the App Store or Google Play for any available updates and install them.
Step 2 (iPhone only) — Do not force-quit the app during normal use. Mr. Number needs to run periodic updates in the background to keep spam lists current. If the app is closed mid-update, blocking may not work correctly. Open the app at least once every 24 hours to ensure updates complete.
Step 3 — Uninstall and reinstall (last resort). Note that uninstalling removes your block list. Take a screenshot of your block list before proceeding.
- iPhone only: Disable Mr. Number in Settings → Phone → Call Blocking & Identification
- Force-quit the Settings app (iPhone) or restart your device (Android)
- Uninstall Mr. Number
- Restart your device
- Reinstall Mr. Number
- Restore your subscription (Premium subscribers only — see above)
(iPhone) Mr. Number is not appearing in Settings → Phone → Call Blocking & Identification
This can sometimes happen after installing or updating the app. To resolve it:
- Wait at least one hour after installation or update.
- Reboot your iPhone.
- Open Mr. Number, then check Settings → Phone → Call Blocking & Identification again.
In some cases, activation can take up to 24 hours. If Mr. Number still doesn't appear after rebooting and waiting, try the uninstall and reinstall steps above.
(iPhone) I've uninstalled Mr. Number but calls are still being blocked. Why?
Uninstalling the app may not immediately remove it from iOS's call blocking list. To stop blocking completely:
- Reinstall Mr. Number.
- Go to Settings → Phone → Call Blocking & Identification and disable Mr. Number.
- Force-quit the Settings app.
- Uninstall Mr. Number again.
- Restart your device.
Call Blocking
How do I block a number?
Android: There are two ways to block a number:
- Tap on a call in your call log, then tap the block icon in the call details screen.
- Go to the Blocking tab, tap Block List, then tap the + button and enter the number.
iPhone: Tap on a call in your call log to open the call details screen, then tap Block.
How do I unblock a number?
Android: Go to the Blocking tab, tap Block List, and tap the × next to the number you want to remove.
iPhone: Go to the Blocking tab, tap Block List, swipe left on the number, and tap Delete.
How do I block spoofed calls or calls from a specific area code or prefix?
See Spoofed Calls / Neighbor Scam for step-by-step instructions on both platforms.
Note: Blocking by area code and prefix will block all calls matching that combination, including calls from numbers in your contacts.
Is there a way to prevent blocked calls from going to voicemail?
Not currently. On both Android and iPhone, the operating system prevents call management apps from disconnecting calls before voicemail. If this changes, we will make the option available.
Can Mr. Number block text messages?
No. Mr. Number does not block text messages on either platform.
Can I block all unknown or private callers?
Android: Yes — with a Premium subscription you can enable Contacts-only mode, which blocks all calls not from your saved contacts. Go to Settings → App Settings → Contacts only.
iPhone: This feature is not available on iPhone. Mr. Number can only block specific numbers or number prefixes, not all unknown callers.
What happens when I block a number?
When a blocked number calls, your phone will typically not ring. The call may still go to voicemail (see above). You can view blocked call activity in the app's call log. You can also turn off blocked-call notifications in your device settings if you prefer not to see them.
Why do I sometimes see a brief flash or one or two rings from a blocked caller?
There can be a short delay between when your phone receives an incoming call and when the blocking process activates, depending on your device and carrier. This is a device-level limitation.
How do I view blocked calls?
Android: Blocked calls appear in the call log within the app.
iPhone: Due to Apple platform limitations, a list of calls blocked by Mr. Number is not available on iPhone.
Caller ID & Lookup
How do I look up an unknown number?
Open Mr. Number and go to the Keypad tab. Enter the phone number you want to look up and tap search.
How do I report a call or leave a comment?
See How do I report spam or leave a comment? for instructions.
My caller ID name is wrong. How do I change it?
If incorrect information is showing for your number, or you'd like to request removal of your information from our services, please submit a request here.
How do I report inaccurate or offensive comments on a number?
If a number in our system has inaccurate or offensive comments, submit a request here and we will review it.
Why can't Mr. Number identify every incoming call?
Mr. Number's database is updated continuously from a wide range of sources, but it does not contain every phone number. If a number isn't identified today, it may be added as our database grows. Some calls may also come in before our system has time to look up the number.
How does spam detection work?
Mr. Number downloads a database of known scam and spam numbers to your device. When a call comes in, it is checked against this local database. If it matches, Mr. Number blocks or identifies the call depending on your settings. The database is updated at least once a day to stay current with new threats.
Are spam lists updated automatically, or do I need to open the app?
Android: Spam lists update automatically in the background.
iPhone: Spam lists update automatically in the background as long as Mr. Number is enabled in Settings → Phone → Call Blocking & Identification. Opening the app periodically helps ensure updates complete.
Why does the number of calls I'm protected from keep changing?
Scammers frequently change their phone numbers to avoid detection. Mr. Number updates its spam lists at least once a day to reflect these changes, so the total count of protected numbers fluctuates as numbers are added and removed.
What is the difference between scam calls, spam calls, and blocked calls?
- Scam calls — Calls attempting to defraud you, such as fake IRS calls, tech support scams, or prize scams.
- Spam calls — Unwanted calls from telemarketers, debt collectors, or other solicitors. Spam is not necessarily fraudulent, but it is disruptive.
- Blocked calls — Numbers you have manually added to your block list.
Does Mr. Number require a network connection to identify calls?
No. Caller identification works using a database stored on your device. You do not need a Wi-Fi or cellular data connection active at the moment a call comes in.
Settings & Notifications
How do I turn off notifications? (Android)
Go to your device's Settings → Apps → Hiya → Notifications and disable notifications there.
How do I delete my call history? (Android)
Open Mr. Number and go to Settings → App Settings → Delete call logs. This removes all call history within the app.
The incoming call alert is getting in the way of my call. How can I change it? (Android)
You can move, minimize, or hide the call alert:
- To move it, tap and drag it to a different area of your screen.
- To hide it, go to Settings → Caller ID and turn off Identify incoming calls.
How do I turn off outgoing caller ID? (Android)
Go to Settings → Caller ID and turn off Identify outgoing calls.
Why isn't my caller ID working? (Android)
Go to Settings → Caller ID and verify that Identify incoming calls and Identify outgoing calls are both turned on. If a specific number is still not identified, it may not yet be in our database.
Privacy
Why do you need access to my contacts?
Granting contacts access is optional. If you allow it, your contacts are not uploaded or shared — they stay on your device. Contact access allows Mr. Number to display callers by the name you've saved, and to avoid flagging numbers that might look suspicious but are legitimate for you (such as your doctor's office).
Do you have access to my call logs? (iPhone)
No. Apple's platform does not provide call management apps access to your call logs.
